One of the most common questions that I get asked when I am working with a client that is fairly new to the Internet marketing world is “Where should I start, PPC or SEO?” To be honest it is kind of a loaded question. To be honest, they are both extremely important in establishing your presence online and do two different things for you.
- Pay-Per-Click: If you are just getting started online and your main goal is to drive traffic to your site so you can test your website’s conversion rate, make improvements but don’t want to wait weeks or even months, PPC is the way to go. All of the main search engines have PPC programs that you can get started with in a short amount of time. Over the years, PPC has kind of got a bad wrap because you can waste a lot of money, very quickly. That could be true if you don’t do you research, know your demand, competition and have a budget.
- SEO. If you would like to build a brand, build a network and get your website ranked on the organic listing of the search engines that you have got to research the keywords that are relevant to your business, analyze your competition, optimize your website for the search engines and visitors and build links. Those are the steps that make up Search Engine Optimization. Even though this process can take some time to prove effective, it is necessary if you would like to compete with the more established businesses that have been online for a while.

If you’re going to make a concerted effort with SEO, PPC should be a part of your strategy because of the measurement tools PPC networks give you to show you which keywords convert. Great post, most business owners don’t have the brass to run PPC because they hear stories about runaway campaigns that costing thousands of dollars a day on accident. Which one is better out of PPC and SEO? Yes.
